A few nights ago we took advantage of a free family concert at the Temecula CRC amphitheater and saw Hullabaloo, a two-man band that specializes in kid-folk music. Love it. This was our second time seeing the band, and Katie and Eric danced for almost the whole show.

Although they do sing some traditional songs (“Hey Lolly Lolly” is one we know from our Music Together class), Steve Denyes (who also does vocals) is a songwriter as well. Many of their songs are humorous and inspiring—I like them as an adult. They have one about the “adult sippy cup”…which is a Starbucks coffee cup. Very amusing. I like that their songs are often related from the kids’ perspective, and since Steve was a teacher this does not surprise me.

We had a dance party to a couple of their CDs this morning.

The kiddos and I are growing into great fans—Katie got a signed poster at the end of the show—and I would love to see them again. They are a local band, based out of Del Mar, and they play all over the area. I may flirt around with various music genres, but I am a folk-lover at heart.

And how awesome is the Temecula Rec Department for offering this experience to the public for free?!?!? I have said it before, but… I love Temecula, and I am fortunate to be able to raise my children in this area (Temecula, Murrieta, Fallbrook). I am sure there are many other cities that are awesome, too. My experience with Temecula is that there is always so much to do, much of it accessible to everyone. We’re looking forward to some of their other family programs this summer!
